Update on MVS Athletic Field Lights

Thank you to those who attended the community meeting on Thursday, February 1, 2024, to hear from MVS leaders about their request to install lights on their athletic fields. The turnout of folks wearing red to show our opposition was incredible!

We are now preparing for the next community meeting on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 6 p.m. at Sandy Springs City Hall. Showing our neighborhood’s continued engagement and opposition is critical so please mark your calendar and plan to show up in red once again!

We will continue to keep you updated as events unfold and appreciate your continued engagement and support! We’ll see you April 15, once again wearing red!

Dear Neighbors,

The Mount Vernon Community Association Board is writing to you concerning maintaining the safety and beauty of our neighborhood. The Mount Vernon Community strives to maintain our areas and homes to the highest standards of safety and aesthetics and solicits your help in doing so.

Recently, we have received several complaints about owners leaving their dogs fecal matter in bags on the road, neighbors' lots and in or on other neighbors’ trash cans. Below are the Sandy Springs ordinances concerning canine fecal matter.

Sandy Spring Ordinance - Removal of canine fecal matter.

(a) It is unlawful for any person owning, possessing, harboring, or having care, charge, control, or custody of any dog not to remove any feces left by that dog on any sidewalk, gutter, street, lot, public park, or other public area or public property.

(b) Dog waste shall be immediately removed by placing said matter in a closed or sealed container and thereafter disposing of it in a trash receptacle, sanitary disposal unit, or other closed or sealed refuse container.

(c) Each and every violation of this section shall be punishable to the extent provided by in the penalty provisions of chapter 1 of this Code.

Pet waste presents not only messy situations, but also presents dangers of sickness and disease in people and pets including: GIARDIASIS, ZOONOTIC DISEASES, ROUNDWORMS, HOOKWORMS, TAPEWORMS and more.

It is in everyone’s best interest to remind pet owners to clean up after their pets. Please help us maintain the beauty and safety of our lovely community. Thank you for your cooperation.
