Update on MVS Athletic Field Lights
Thank you to those who attended the community meeting on Thursday, February 1, 2024, to hear from MVS leaders about their request to install lights on their athletic fields. The turnout of folks wearing red to show our opposition was incredible!
We are now preparing for the next community meeting on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 6 p.m. at Sandy Springs City Hall. Showing our neighborhood’s continued engagement and opposition is critical so please mark your calendar and plan to show up in red once again!
In the meantime, here are a few updates and ways you can continue to help our efforts.
Yard signs will be available soon to show our neighborhood’s opposition to the lights. If you are willing to display a sign in your yard, https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe0TO1gsNhFC5EkOfg_-n1fIQUZEp_GL4C4kVbCfy--nP1Cgg/viewform?usp=sf_link

The first Mount Vernon School use permit community meeting!!
Hi neighbors! We wanted to let you know that the first community meeting for the Mount Vernon School Use Permit application to install lights on its athletic fields has been rescheduled to Thursday, February 1 at 6 pm. It will be held at the Mount Vernon School upper campus at 510 Mount Vernon Highway.
Here are the facts surrounding this issue:
The Mount Vernon School property backs up to the homes of nearly two dozen Mount Vernon Woods' families along Vernon Woods Drive, Carriage Drive and Williamson Drive.
The school leadership signed several agreements, including one with our neighborhood, agreeing that lights would not be installed on the athletic fields.
Despite those agreements, school leaders are moving forward with a "Use Permit" application with the Sandy Springs government to install lights on existing and planned athletic fields.
The planned athletic fields would be directly behind nearly two dozen homes in Mount Vernon Woods
Our neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods are facing a significant change to our quality of life and property values if the Mount Vernon School request is approved.
For more information on this issue and to find out how you can get involved, email Kimberly Oliver at mvwpresident@gmail.com
We hope to see you at the community meeting on February 1. Please wear red as a show of solidarity in opposition to the Use Permit. weas
Thank you!
